Dancer Anna’s on top of the world!

Fourteen-year-old Killeavy girl Anna McKeown has been crowned the winner in the U15 section of the World Irish Dancing Championships!

Anna has been dancing with the Rooney O’Malley Maguire School since the tender age of 3.

Under the tutelage of her dance teachers, Eamonn O’Malley and Debbie Maguire, Anna achieved fourth place in her first World Championship in the U10 category, then second at U14 level.

After a lot of incredibly hard work she has reached her dream goal of finally winning the World Championships this year.

A committed dancer in both solo and team dancing, Anna’s consistency and work ethic is second to none and she has always been a delight to teach.

Alongside attributes such as elegance and style, Anna is diligent and passionate about her dancing and knowing what it took to achieve the top spot, she chose to overcome every obstacle to reach it.

Anna is also one of the original performers in Jigjazz, a show which gives dancers like Anna the opportunity to perform outside of competitive dancing and the confidence to put their love and passion for the art form in the spotlight. Jigjazz also offers the tools and technique needed for dancers to pursue a career in shows such as Lord of the Dance and Riverdance.

Her dance school said, “We are delighted and so proud of Anna. Her performance on the day she won in the INEC, Killarney was unforgettable and has left an indelible mark on us as her teachers as well as all her family and friends. She deserves every success…an inspiration and a credit to her dancing school and entire community.”

There was further success as the U14 Invented Unmixed Team, U18 Ceili Unmixed World Champions and Senior Ceili Mixed Team were also crowned world champions, with the latter bringing home the Eileen Rooney Memorial Cup
