Police in new appeal over ram-raid at jewellers

​Police investigating a burglary at a jewellers in Newry earlier this month are appealing to a male who was wearing hi-viz clothing who was walking on Hill Street at this time to please contact police.

The incident took place at at McWhirter the Jeweller on Hill Street at approximately 4.30am on December 6, 2023.

A silver saloon car reversed into the shutters of the shop before a man alighted from the vehicle and pulled back the damaged shutters, entering the shop.

Once inside he removed cash from a till and a quantity of jewellery before fleeing in the vehicle.

A PSNI spokesperson said: “We believe this male may be a key witness to this incident. We would also appeal to motorists in the area. Did you notice a silver Skoda with a southern VRM travelling in the area?

"We would be keen to hear from you if you saw the driver or could identify him from any dash-cam footage from driving past this vehicle.

"Please contact police quoting reference 136 6/12/23.”
