They face a tough road to recovery. They have been aided by the fantastic teams at Newry BID and Newry Chamber, who have been on the ground providing practical support.

Lobbying is taking place to try and get more financial assistance from central and UK government. But what can Joe Public do to help and get the city back on its feet?

Well, it’s quite simple. Christmas is coming.

And many of you reading this edition of the Newry Reporter will be out looking for presents for your loved ones in the weeks ahead.

Quite a few of the retailers affected will be moving to temporary locations in the next few weeks. When they do, why not give them your support?

Many of those businesses affected are independent retailers who support a local workforce. Therefore by shopping locally you can put money back into your community.

Not only that, but many local traders buy more products from local producers, so spending a few quid in the shops can help other businesses too.

It’s also the environmentally friendly thing to do as by shopping on your doorstep it means you travel a shorter distance as a result. You might even be able to walk or cycle to the shops and therefore reduce the amount of air pollution and traffic congestion.

experience

Newry has a fantastic retail offering so why not get out and experience it as Christmas approaches.
