Wednesday's planned unveiling of a statue of Pat Jennings in Newry will go ahead as planned, with the man himself in attendance

It is understood he took unwell while preparing to watch Spurs take on Chelsea in the Premier League on Monday evening.

The 78-year-old former Spurs and Arsenal goalkeeper was taken to a north London hospital for some precautionary tests but was given the all clear and discharged after midnight, the Daily Mail reported.

He played at both the Spain 82 and Mexico 86 World Cups, and had a spell with Watford before his final game for Northern Ireland against Brazil in Mexico in 1986, having won a then record 119 caps.

This afternoon (Tuesday) Kevin McAllister, PRO of the organising committee, said: "On behalf of the Friends of Big Pat Committee I would like to inform everyone that this wonderful occasion of the official unveiling of his statue on Wednesday, November 8 at Kildare Street, Newry will proceed as planned.

"Yesterday evening Pat was feeling unwell as reported in the media, however he would like to assure his many well wishers and fans that he is ok to continue and after some further rest today h is looking forward to unveiling his statue in his home city."
