Cancer Research has made great advances in making earlier diagnosis and the development of newer, better treatments in the fight against this terrible disease which we know affects one in two people.

We also know that thank to research, many of these people will be completely cured or will be able to live worthwhile lives for 10 or more years after having a cancer diagnosis.

Cancer is no respecter of age, gender, class, colour or creed, so research is a necessity not a luxury.

For more than 40 years, the Newry committee has been contributing all the money raised by them to the Cancer Research Centre Belfast City Hospital and just last week members were presented with the Flame of Hope Award by National Cancer Research UK in recognition of having raised the magnificent sum of one million pounds by January 2023. We, together with Castlederg, were chosen from 750 nominations - a great honour indeed.

A further sum of nearly £100,000 was raised in the last financial year February 2023/January 2024.

Newry Cancer Research Committee would like to take this opportunity to offer our sincere thanks and appreciation to the many businesses the people and volunteers past and present from Newry and the surrounding areas, who have so generously and loyally supported our fundraising efforts over the years, without whom our efforts would by futile. The Flame of Hope Award is for you too.

This is why we hope you will join us on Sunday, April 28 at 9am for the cycle, or 10am for the walk at Albert Basin, Newry. If unable to attend, a donation would be appreciated so that together we will beat cancer.
