Newry, Mourne and Down District Council Chairperson, Councillor Valerie Harte, has provided a monetary donation to seven local foodbanks within the community to support residents who are most in need this Christmas.

Foodbanks across our district provide lifelines for those facing financial struggles, offering not just sustenance but also practical support for those in need. For many of us, Christmas is a magical time, but we know for countless families it can often cause added financial pressure and stress. With the escalating cost of living that we are currently facing, more and more individuals and families locally are turning to foodbanks for help this Christmas as they struggle to put food on the table.

Cllr Harte said, “As we approach the festive season, many residents in our community face a combination of factors that will cause serious hardship for them. Now more than ever there is a continuing need to support our foodbanks, not just at Christmas but all year round. Each of the foodbanks located in our district work tirelessly, always going the extra mile to help struggling families and individuals by providing food parcels and support to those in need.
