Daisy Hill healthcare workers in demonstration for Palestine

The Ireland Palestine Solidarity Campaign (IPSC) and the Health Care workers for Palestine gathered with a group of locals as well as health care workers outside Daisy Hill on Friday night in solidarity for the health care workers currently under fire in the Palestine conflict.

The vigil was hosted by Daisy Hill nurse Deirdre Linder, who spoke to the crowd.

She said, “There are no words to describe what the Palestinians have suffered.

"The situation has been played onto our screens, 24/7 day and night, and we want to send a message to all the governments supporting this evil, we are here to show our humanity, not just to the health care workers, but to the wider society of Palestine and Gaza.”

Protests have taken place around the globe, highlighting the growing issue of Palestine health workers being targeted, and killed. With the ongoing bombings and shootings, Palestine has suffered a loss in medical supplies, hospitals, ambulances and a growing number of lives every day.

These losses have stretched the already exhausted heath care system, to worrying level.

The gathering which consisted of Daisy Hill staff, and other health care workers, shared a minute of silence to show solidarity with those who have suffered. This was then followed by a song, performed by Danny.

She also called for a boycott of the mainstream media, accusing them of “aiding and abetting this genocide.

"They are a putting a different spin on what is really happening. If you are silent in the face of mass murder, then you are complicit.”

The IPSC is hosting another event on March 8 at Bellinis, a ‘Gig for Gaza’, which will consist of local musicians, guest speakers from Palestine; there will also be Palestinian crafts and artefacts available on the night.

The funds raised for this event will be sent to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA), which will help aid Palestine refugees.
