Sinn Féin MLA Sinéad Ennis is delighted that DVA have reinstated testing services in Newry following her request last year.

The South Down MLA said that this is great news for workers who will now be able to access services in their local area.

Ms Ennis said: “Since the removal of taximeter testing services in Newry during the pandemic, local workers in South Down were forced to travel to Belfast or Lisburn to avail of appointments.

“Taxis right across the north underwent meter upgrades in line with changes to fares brought in by the DfI last year.

“With thousands needing tests, many were left finding it difficult to secure an appointment.

“In writing to the Permanent Secretary, I requested that services be returned to Newry to meet demand, and ensure local workers could access services in their own area in the future.

“I welcome that DVA have listened to this request and taximeter testing will now be available in Newry once again.”
