Ulster Unionist Councillor David Taylor has welcomed a decision by Newry, Mourne and Down District Council to continue its support for the home to hospital scheme delivered in the Slieve Gullion and Mournes areas by Bolster Community.

The scheme is currently available to residents in these District Electoral Areas and provides transport assistance to people aged 60+ with out of area hospital appointments.

Councillor Taylor said: “I was very pleased to propose at the Sustainability and Environment Committee meeting that Newry, Mourne and Down District Council continue with its support for the home to hospital scheme. It’s important that Council assists in the delivery of these types of community services.

“It has served as a vital support provision to many residents over recent years and I would certainly encourage anyone within the Slieve Gullion and Mournes District Electoral Areas who meets the required age criteria to avail of the scheme if they need transport assistance to hospital appointments.

“I also welcome that Council are looking at the possibility of extending the scheme to other areas in the District.”
