Invincible setting the pace
15 May 2019
The Carlingford Lough Yacht Club (CLYC) Cruiser Racing programme is underway with 26 races scheduled for the Early Season Series.
Currently leading the fleet in NHC and CPH handicaps is Mick McCann’s Invincible, which took advantage of the absent Warrior in last Saturday’s races.
The Blues On The Bay Open Regatta takes place this Saturday and is the first of nine open events scheduled for this year. A fleet of 10 cruisers are expected to compete over four races for the coveted Blues On The Bay Cup.
Favourite must be Warrior, who have won the title the last three years since 2015 and no doubt, skipper Tim Gibbons will be pushing his crew for a fourth consecutive win.
The Blues On The Bay Open Regatta welcomes all cruisers and entry is free. See CLYC Killowen on Facebook for details and the online entry form
The Ulster Savings Cups were competed for on Sunday by 10 dinghies, once more the Junior B Fleet competing directly with the A Fleet.
Catherine McDonagh and Connla Conway set the course for two races in perfect conditions, with sunshine added. The Cranleys and Stephen Finnegan had a collision after the end of Race Two, but the exciting finish made up for it.
The best B Fleet sailor was Izzy O’Farrell, followed by Maya O’Neill and Molly McDonagh.
Podium places were as follows:
Ulster Savings Cup I: Stephen Finnegan
Ulster Savings Cup II: Kieran & Brian Cranley
