Cullyhanna booked their place in the final of the Armagh Intermediate Football Championship final with a five-point victory over Pearse Ogs on Saturday. The south Armagh men came into the game as favourites, but were pushed hard by the Ogs. However, Ross McQuillan’s early goal sent Cullyhanna on the right path, whilst Armagh joint-captain Aidan Nugent chipped in with 0-6 in an excellent performance.

Stephen Reel’s side will meet last year’s beaten finalists St Paul’s in the decider.

‘The Ogs put the pressure on’

Following the win Cullyhanna’s Jason Duffy spoke to Armagh TV and he agreed that after four relatively straight forward wins to reach the semi-final (Cullyhanna had an average winning margin of over 14 points in the Championship coming into the weekend) the team were glad to be given such a stern test by Pearse Ogs.

“This is where we have been targeting to get to since the start of the year,” he said, of reaching the final.

“We knew coming into the game that we maybe hadn’t been tested as much as the Ogs had – they came through three or four tough games – so, it was definitely good to get a game against them, and a good tight game going into the final.

“That Ogs goal really put the pressure on. I’m just glad that we were able to get through that test, because it will stand to us going forward.”
