Warrenpoint Town manager Gary Boyle spoke to the Newry Reporter in Milltown following his sides 1-0 victory over Ballymacash Rangers. Finally the losing streak has ended for Warrenpoint Town and while only a goal separated them from promotion chasers Ballymacash in Milltown on Saturday, it was a fantastic uplifting performance as the season nears a close and one that Boyle was delighted with.

"We’re really, really proud of that performance today,” Boyle told the Newry Reporter after the game.

"Certainly from when I’ve come to the club it hasn’t been easy and full credit to the players for their performance today against a team that’s going for the league and going for promotion.

It just shows what we’re capable of when we’re fully on it and when we’re fully concentrating… It’s the start we’re looking to build for the end of this season to take with us to go forward to next season to really put this club back where it should be.”

The home side had most of the attacking chances throughout but the one that counted came right at the cusp of half-time with Junior Shotayo hitting the net with a lovely finish to give his side a 1-0 lead at the break.

There were further chances for the Point in the second half and had they been taken it would have made life easier but that would prove to be the only goal of the game. And while the visitors threw the kitchen sink at the home side late on, they had a man sent off in the dying minutes when Rory Powell - fresh from celebrating his nineteenth birthday with his Northern Ireland U18 triumph against Wales on Friday night to claim the Centenary Shield – was through for a second goal. It wasn’t required in the end as Warrenpoint held firm to claim their first win in a long time and the first under the new manager.
