In the Dutch Open, Doyle won all his group games to finish top and in doing so, gave himself a bye to the semi-final where he met USA’s Jack Saffros.

It was Saffros who led late in the game (20-17) and just one mistake from Doyle would see him exit the competition. However, it was then that the Whitecross man pulled off some sensational points to seal his place in the final on a 21-20 scoreline.

The final (which was a repeat of last year’s decider) saw Doyle face local hero, Jasper Boomsma.

There was to be no tight game this time as the Whitecross maestro romped to a 21-11 victory to claim the title for a second consecutive year.

In the Men’s Open grade, Fíachra Ó Dúill advanced from his group to set up a quarter final clash with top professional Kaatsen handball player, Tjisse Steenstra.

At just 18 years, underdog Ó Dúill played some super handball to take the game on a 25-16 score-line.

He then fell short to European number one.

However, it was another top four finish in the Men’s Open grade – a fabulous achievement.

Well done to both players and best wishes for the year ahead.
