Get ready for a spellbinding Halloween experience on Friday 27 October, as Newry City prepares to double the fun with two events in one spooktacular evening.

The evening, organised by Newry, Mourne and Down District Council, promises to be a spine-tingling affair and will see the city’s streets come to life (or death) with a Halloween Twilight event at Newry Variety Market and a family-friendly street carnival on Marcus Square.

Talking about the Halloween preparations, Newry Mourne and Down District Council Chairperson, Councillor Valerie Harte said, “Newry Variety Market will continue a tradition dating back to medieval times. It will be transformed into a Halloween wonderland with enchanting decorations that will transport visitors to a world of ghosts, goblins and ghouls, and packed with a line-up of incredible musical acts, a feast of talented artists and craftspeople, delectable food and an atmosphere created by unforgettable fancy dress.

“More Halloween fun can be found in Marcus Square and Hill Street where a family-friendly street carnival, featuring traditional fairground rides and a live fire show, will keep everyone entertained. This is just one of a selection of events happening in all corners of our newly designated UNESCO Geopark, organised by both the Council and local community organisations.”

The Halloween Twilight Market will be at the core of this spooky evening, starting at 5pm and finishing at 10pm. It will feature a range of family activities and attractions for all ages, including a musical line-up that promises to keep Halloween spirits high with a mix of spooky tunes and popular hits that will have everyone dancing along.

The market is a haven for art enthusiasts and craft lovers offering a range of wares from talented artists and craftspeople. From eerie paintings to handmade Halloween-themed items, the Halloween market will offer a diverse range of craft to explore. Foodies will delight in the mouthwatering options available from the variety of food vendors on-site serving delicious treats and seasonal delights to satisfy every palate. Everyone is being encouraged to turn up in fancy dress, so kids and adults can flaunt their most creative, spooky, or hilarious costumes for a chance to win some fantastic spot prizes!

For families looking for a fun and safe way to celebrate Halloween, the Newry Halloween Street Festival in Marcus Square and Hill Street, from 5pm to 8.30pm, is the perfect choice. It will feature a family-friendly carnival with traditional fairground rides, ensuring that even the littlest ghosts and goblins can enjoy the fun.
